Planning your Grenada vacation

Make sure you pack your rod and reel to take part in the fishing frenzy that looms on Grenada. Fishing is a favorite pastime on the island, but it is also a major source of income for many Grenadians. Pack lightly so that you can save room for souvenirs and bundles of fresh fruit, herbs, and spices that you’ll want to carry home with you. Grenada’s streets carry a steady flow of traffic as island residents and visitors rush to raid the daily markets for the ripest, biggest, largest, and sweetest home-grown produce. Market Square, in the capital city of St. George, attracts herds of shoppers who frequent this lively outlet. St. George, the island’s showpiece, is brimming with activity, and not only at its marketplaces. Its stone houses, quaint Grenada hotels, and tropical forests keep tourists lingering within its gates. Water sports galore are bubbling over on Grand Anse beach, but Mourne Rouge Bay is the best place to go for rest and relaxation.

Travel Tips

The beaches at Grenada are its main attraction, so beach safety is of utmost importance for vacation planners. Be sure to wear sunscreen with a high SPF, as the sun can be quite intense, even on cloudy days. Reapply after swimming, activity, or after several hours on the beach. While you want to return home with a great tan, a bad sunburn can put a damper on your vacation. Build your tan slowly during your stay. Many areas along the beaches are patrolled by lifeguards, and families with young children would be advised to frequent these.

Grenada is a very safe place to visit, but visitors should use common sense. Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle, or on the beach unattended. Numerous banks are located throughout the islands which offer currency exchange, and ATM’s are plentiful.
